South Bay Cities Genealogical Society

Promoting Genealogical Education and Research in Southern California's South Bay

About South Bay Cities Genealogical Society

Welcome to the official web site of the South Bay Genealogical Society, or more succinctly, SBCGS.

We are a 501(c)(3) organization, formed in 1977 to provide a forum for people to assemble and exchange ideas, tips, information regarding genealogical tools and techniques, and to preserve and promote local genealogies. We also provide programs and publications for the education of people interested in understanding their own family history.

The society is proud to host a collection of books, magazines, and historical documents in the special collections room of the library. Unfortunately, we can't lend these materials, so please bring your paper and pencil, camera, portable scanner, or coins for the library's copy machines, to record items of interest to you.

Our monthly meetings are free and open to everyone! They are held at 7pm every third Wednesday of the month (no meeting in December) at the Torrance Civic Center Library in the meeting room. You can see who's speaking at the next meeting on our calendar page.

Membership

If you would like to join us, our annual dues are only $20/individual or $23/family per year. A few of the benefits you will enjoy from your association with SBCGS…

Although we are centered on the South Bay of Southern California, including the cities listed below, we are open to visitors (and members!) from any part of the world. Few families have no history outside of their current location.
